What is a rosette

An award rosette ribbon or prize rosette is a fabric design, made from pleated or gathered acetate ribbon, and fashioned into a circle of ruffles, loops, petals or points, designed to resemble a rose. When a rosette is part of an award ribbon, many streamers may be attached, as well as tassels, a cast metal center, and a means of attaching it all to the award winner.

Rosettes are often used as awards for competitions or horse shows, and they can be used to identify the wearer within a specific group or organization. Schools, clubs, and heritage societies are some of the types of organization that use rosettes to honor accomplishments and identify members. Governments award rosettes for military and civic honors, and some wear rosettes to show allegiance to a favorite sports team or political party.
